What is Parkinson's Disease?

Parkinson's Disease is the second most common progressive degenerative neurological disorder.

​

It is caused by the death of certain cells in the brain that help control motor skills.

​

What are the effects of PD?
Symptoms vary within individuals but often include tremors, rigidity, stiffness, slowness of movement, and poor balance.

Other symptoms may include difficulty with thinking, depression, and problems with speaking or swallowing.

Who is affected  by PD?

Parkinson's is generally thought of as a condition that affects the elderly but young people can be affected too, referred to as "young onset Parkinson's."
